16 photos of Flashdown Wood, North Devon

Flashdown Wood is a small woodland in North Devon. The wood was the first Forestry Commission Wood, with planting beginning in 1919. At Flashdown Wood today there is a main avenue through the woods with smaller trails leading off. Flashdown Wood is several miles east of Winkleigh which is about 12 miles north of Okehampton. Take the B3215 from Okehampton and at Belstone Corner turn left where signposted to Sampford Courtenay. At Sampford Courtenay at the mini roundabout turn right onto the A3072, then take the next left onto the A3124 (signposted to Winkleigh), then take the next left to continue on the A3124 to Winkleigh. Arriving at Winkleigh turn left to continue on the A3124, then turn right onto Eggesford Road. Continue on this road for several miles, then just after a right bend, the entrance to Flashdown Wood is on the right. There are other routes to Flashdown Wood such as the A377 from Crediton. At Flashdown Wood, drive through the entrance and at the end of the lane there is space for 3-4 cars to park.
